Granarolo presented its first prototype of a 100% compostable milk bottle in 12 weeks. The bottle is made of PLA, a bioplastic of vegetable origin produced with Cassava which has the peculiarity of being 100% biodegradable and of being able to be returned to the earth through composting. The prototype was presented for the first time on the occasion of Expo 2015, in a Special Edition.
In line with the value of respect for the environment and the sustainability issues of Expo “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, Granarolo has chosen to use a bottle made up 100% of Cassava, which has the potential to biodegrade in compost within 12 weeks. The choice of using Cassava is also ethical: the material does not derive from vegetable products and consequently does not affect the human food chain.
The first compostable bottle of Granarolo is also among the finalists of the Packaging Oscar 2015, a historic contest that since 1957 has been an observatory on the evolution of packaging, its performance and the service it offers to those who use it. The results of the contest will be known in conjunction with the start of the 2015 Universal Exposition. The bottle prototype was developed in collaboration with IDEA Italia Group represented by the CEO Antonio Fanteria, a Chinese polymer producer and Sacmi company producing the prototype molds. For those who will “get to know” the prototype at the Universal Exposition, from June there will also be bottle preforms containing author’s nursery rhymes.
